Replacing window frames in Nieuwegein

Old window frames, windows and doors out and new ones in, including sliding doors at the back of the house. Finished and sealed inside and out.

I take out your old frames, windows or doors and fit new ones. I set them level and plumb, finish them inside and out and seal them. If you need scaffolding, I arrange it.

What I do for you

I work in Nieuwegein and Utrecht, and for a bigger job further out into the region.

Window frame replacement by DZRMS, completed work in Nieuwegein

How I go about it

  • Taking out old frames, windows and doors and fitting new ones, including French doors with transom windows.
  • Fitting sliding patio doors in the back wall, including the join with the floor.
  • Finishing and sealing inside and out, so no gap and no draught is left.
  • Making good the plaster and the trim around the frame.
  • Arranging scaffolding when your facade needs it.

A window frame often goes wrong for years before you notice. The window no longer closes properly, the bottom of the woodwork is soft, there is a draught along the edge, or the door sticks in summer and not in winter. Then it is time to replace the frames. It belongs under carpentry and fitting. In Dutch these jobs are called kozijnen vervangen, and kozijn means the whole frame with its windows or door.

What happens when I replace window frames

I start by measuring. Frames are made to size, so the measurement you take yourself is never enough: I measure the opening where the frame goes, every corner separately. After that we choose the frame together. I usually buy the materials myself.

On the day itself the old frame comes out, with the windows or the door in it. I set the new frame level and plumb. That is the part you cannot correct later: a frame set crooked starts to stick every season. After that I connect it inside and out and seal it.

That is how I took out the old frames on a back wall under a balcony and fitted new white frames with French doors and transom windows. A second job, new frames in a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom, shows the result with the wall closed up again around the profile.

French doors and transom windows

A back wall often has more than one frame: French doors to the garden, windows beside them and transom windows above. I replace those as one glazed front, so everything sits in the same line and is finished the same way. If there is a balcony or an overhang above, I also make a neat join between the top of the frame and that.

Fitting sliding doors

Fitting sliding patio doors is a frame job with an extra step. The frame itself fits in the opening. But the transition from inside to outside decides whether it works: the floor inside and the terrace outside have to meet, and the water has to be able to run away from the threshold.

If the opening becomes wider than it was, something changes in the structure and a calculation has to go with it. That is bigger work than replacing frames. You will find it in a home extension or a renovation, and I say so beforehand if your job ends up there.

Scaffolding and access

On the ground floor I can usually manage without scaffolding. If the window is on an upper floor, or the facade cannot be reached, I arrange the scaffolding. The way in matters too: large frames through a narrow hallway cost time. I tell you that when I measure.

What comes around the frame

Replacing a frame is rarely just a frame. There is almost always some repair to the plaster, a new windowsill or new trim. I close the plaster up again and make it flat, as described under plastering. If a roof window is part of your plans, you can read about it under roof window installation. If more things in the same room are changing, I plan it as one job so the order is right.

How to start

Send me a few photos of the frames and the sizes you know through the contact page, and I will tell you what I would do. I work in Nieuwegein, Utrecht and the places around them. From measuring to sealing you have one person to deal with: me.

What sets the price

A large part of the price of window frames is the frame itself: material, size and glass. The fitting and finishing come on top and depend on the house: how reachable the facade is, how straight the wall stands and how much plaster, trim and sealant work comes with it. So I look first and work out the price afterwards.

What it comes down to

  • The number of frames and their size. A large glazed front is more than two ordinary windows together.
  • The type of frame and the material. That differs in price and in what you do to maintain it later.
  • The glass. Double or insulating glass and its dimensions make up a large part of the bill.
  • How much finishing comes with it: plaster, windowsill, trim and sealant work inside and out.
  • Access, and whether scaffolding is needed.

What is included

  • Measuring up on site and choosing the frame together.
  • Taking out the old frame and taking it away.
  • Setting the new frame level and plumb, and fixing it.
  • Connecting and sealing it inside and out.
  • Arranging scaffolding if it is needed.

What comes on top

  • Painting the frame or the wall around it, unless we agree on it.
  • Making the frame opening bigger or smaller, which is a different job.
  • A permit, if one turns out to be needed for your facade.
  • Repairs to what only shows once the old frame is out, such as rotten timber in the wall. I put that to you first.

Send a few photos of the situation and say briefly what you want. Then you hear from me what it will cost in your case, itemised and with no strings attached.

Also in these towns

I work out of Nieuwegein and come to the whole region. These are the towns with a page of their own.

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to replace window frames?

That depends on the number of frames, their size, the material and the glass. The finishing counts too: a frame that simply comes out and goes in is different from one where the plaster and the windowsill are renewed as well. I do not put figures on this site. After a visit you get a price for the job, with what I do per item.

Who buys the frames?

Usually I do. When I measure up we choose the frame together, and then I arrange the order. If you want to buy something yourself, we agree that up front.

Do I need a permit for new window frames?

That depends on your address and on what changes about the facade. You check it yourself in the Omgevingsloket (the government's online permit portal), or you ask the municipality. I tell you what changes about the frames, so you can fill in that check properly.

Do you arrange the scaffolding?

Yes, when it is needed. On the ground floor usually not. For a window on an upper floor, or a facade I cannot otherwise reach, yes. I put that in the quote beforehand.

What happens to the plaster and the windowsill?

Replacing a frame rarely stops at the frame. The wall around it is closed up again and plastered smooth. What happens to the windowsill and the trim, we agree up front. The quote says what belongs to the job and what you agree separately, such as painting.

How long before my new frames are in?

Frames are made to size, so first comes the order and the delivery. How long that takes depends on the frame and the size. You hear that up front, not when I am already at your door.

What customers say

“I am very happy with how Dido carried out the work. I had a leak and mold problem in my kitchen sink. He replaced the faucet, sink, and parts of the installation. The result turned out very nicely. Dido is very knowledgeable and very solution-oriented. I will definitely hire him again for other jobs.”

Tell me briefly what is going on

Three short steps. I look at it and call you back to talk it through.

Step 1 of 3: who you are and how I reach you
Step 2 of 3: what needs doing

The more concrete you write it down, the better I can judge what it is going to cost.

Step 3 of 3: where you are

I would rather give you a call. Your email address is only there in case I cannot reach you.
