Plasterer in Nieuwegein
Walls and ceilings plastered smooth, then painted or wallpapered if you want that.
I plaster walls and ceilings in Nieuwegein and Utrecht, smooth and ready to paint or with a texture, and I finish them flat right up to the edges. I do the painting and the wallpapering afterwards myself.
What I do for you
I work in Nieuwegein and Utrecht, and for a bigger job further out into the region.

How I go about it
- Plastering walls and ceilings, smooth and paint-ready or with a texture.
- Repairing existing plaster after water damage, after a wall opening has been knocked through or after a wall has been removed.
- A flat finish right into the corners and along the edges, including around new window frames.
- Interior painting: walls, ceilings, doors and window frames.
- Wallpapering on a wall that has first been made flat, so you do not see seams and bumps.
- Plastering, painting and wallpapering one after the other, in an order that works.
You usually look for a plasterer only when the wall is already in a bad way: cracks, a ceiling with holes from old lights, a wall where a door has been taken out. I plaster walls and ceilings in Nieuwegein, Utrecht and the towns around them. I do the painting and the wallpapering afterwards myself if you want that. It belongs with a renovation, and it is often the last step of one.
You can see how I prepare a room on the project page for a hallway with a new front door. The walls and the ceiling there were stripped back and made ready for the finish, and the column in the corner was reboarded with plasterboard and a corner bead. Those photos are from halfway through the work, not from the handover.
What plastering is, and when filling is enough
Plastering means a new, smooth layer on a wall or ceiling. You do it when the surface is too rough or too damaged to paint or wallpaper, or when you want a wall that is flat all over. Filling is lighter work: closing a hole, a crack or a dent. If you only have a few spots, filling is often enough. I first look at what the wall needs and only then at what I do with it.
Paint-ready or textured
In Dutch quotes you will see the word sausklaar. It means smooth and ready to paint or wallpaper. A texture leaves a pattern in the wall and hides small irregularities better. A smooth surface shows them, but it is the logical base if you want to wallpaper. Beyond that it is a matter of taste.
What is underneath
The plastering itself is rarely the problem. The surface underneath is. Old wallpaper paste, loose paint, cracks that keep coming back, a wall that draws damp: you deal with it before a layer goes over it. If you skip that, it shows again within a season.
After knocking through a wall, removing a wall or replacing a window frame, plaster is part of the repair. With new window frames in a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom, the wall around each frame was closed up again and plastered flat up to the profile. In those photos the plaster is still wet, hence the dark edges. Anyone who has window frames replaced nearly always has this work as well.
If the wall is damp or has mould on it, plastering does not help. The cause has to go first. How that works with me is on the page about water damage repair.
Ceilings and edges
A ceiling is harder than a wall. The light falls across it at an angle, and you see every wave in the evening with the lamp on. That is why a ceiling takes more time than a wall.
The same goes for corners and edges. A wall that is smooth in the middle and rough at the skirting board or the window frame stands out right there. That is where most of the work is.
Painting: walls, ceilings, doors and window frames
I paint indoors: walls and ceilings, but also doors and window frames.
A few things to know if you are looking for an interior painter:
Prime new plaster first. Plaster is very absorbent. Without a primer the paint disappears into the wall and you get patches.
Wait until the wall is dry. Paint on a wet wall blisters and peels. If the wall is the same colour all over, it is probably dry.
Dark colours need more coats. A deep green wall covers more slowly than a white one. Try the colour on the wall itself, because the light in your room changes it.
Doors and frames are seen up close. That is where every drip and every mark shows.
If painting is part of the same job as the plastering, I go through the order with you: plaster first, then let it dry, then prime, then paint.
Wallpapering
Wallpaper shows every irregularity. So wallpapering starts with the wall and not with the wallpaper. If the wall is not smooth enough, I make it flat first, so you do not see seams and bumps.
If there is old wallpaper on it, that has to come off, together with the paste. Bare plaster soaks up the paste if you do not prime it first, and then the wallpaper comes off. That is preparation too and not part of the hanging itself.
If you want a wallpaper hanger in Nieuwegein or Utrecht for one room or for your whole home, send me a photo of the wall. Then I can see what has to happen first.
How it works
You send a message through the contact page with a few photos of the walls and the ceilings. I come and look, feel the surface and go through with you what you want: plastering only, or painting and wallpapering as well. After that you get a quote that says per item what I do.
I work in Nieuwegein, Utrecht, IJsselstein, Houten and Vianen. If you are somewhere else, just ask.
If it is a single crack, a sealant edge or a cupboard door that hangs crooked, look at handyman and maintenance.
What sets the price
With plastering the price is rarely in the plastering itself. It is in everything that has to happen before the first coat: closing cracks, removing wallpaper and paste, letting a damp patch dry out, squaring up corners. That is why I look first and work out the price afterwards. That way you know up front which part of the quote is for the surface and which part for the finish.
What it comes down to
- The number of square metres, and whether it is walls, ceilings or both. Ceilings take more effort.
- The state of the surface: cracks, holes, old paint, wallpaper paste or loose parts that have to go first.
- Paint-ready or textured. The choice changes the approach and the time.
- The number of corners, alcoves and joins to window frames and skirting boards, because that is where the finishing work is.
- Whether the wall is dry. A damp wall needs the cause dealt with first.
- Whether the room is empty or has furniture in it that has to be covered or moved.
- Whether painting and wallpapering are in the same quote. That saves a second visit.
What is included
- Looking at the walls on site and a quote that says per item what I do.
- Getting walls and ceilings ready for the finish, including filling cracks and holes.
- The plastering itself, finished flat, also along the edges and around window frames.
- Painting and wallpapering when they are in the quote.
What comes on top
- Removing asbestos, which is a job for a certified company.
- Fixing the cause of damp or a leak behind the wall.
- Structural changes, such as taking a wall out. That is a separate item in a renovation.
- Painting and wallpapering that is not in the quote, unless we agree it.
- Paint, wallpaper and paste. Who supplies the material, we agree beforehand.
Send a few photos of the situation and say briefly what you want. Then you hear from me what it will cost in your case, itemised and with no strings attached.
Also in these towns
I work out of Nieuwegein and come to the whole region. These are the towns with a page of their own.
Frequently asked questions
What does it cost to have a wall plastered?
That depends on the number of square metres, the state of the wall and the finish you choose. A flat wall that only needs a new coat is different work from a wall with cracks, old wallpaper glue or a doorway that has been cut out. Ceilings take more effort than walls. I do not give a figure without having seen the walls. The quote says per item what I do.
How long does plaster have to dry before you can paint?
There is no fixed time. It depends on how thick the layer is, on the temperature and on how well you ventilate. You can see it yourself: if the wall is an even, light colour all over, it is dry. Dark patches mean moisture. Paint too early and you get blisters or paint that peels.
Do you have to prime new plaster before painting it?
Yes. Plaster is very absorbent, and without a primer the paint soaks in too fast. You get patches and you need extra coats. The same goes for wallpaper paste on a bare plastered wall.
Can you plaster over wallpaper?
Usually it is better not to. Scraps of wallpaper come loose in the water of the plaster, and paste residue weakens the bond. Take the wallpaper and the paste off first. If the wallpaper is firmly attached all over a flat surface there can be an exception. I can only tell once I have felt the wallpaper myself.
What is the difference between a smooth finish and a textured finish?
A smooth finish is a flat surface that is ready for paint or wallpaper. A texture leaves a pattern in the wall, and it hides small irregularities better than a smooth surface does. It is mostly a matter of taste. Not sure? Show me the room and tell me how you use it.
Can you plaster a wall that has cracks or water damage?
I repair cracks before plaster goes over them, otherwise they come back. With water damage or a damp wall the cause has to be gone first and the wall has to be dry, because plaster on a wet surface does not stay put. How that works with me is explained on the page about water damage repair.
Do you also do the painting and the wallpapering after the plastering?
Yes. That way you do not have to find a second tradesman to take over the wall, and you do not have to explain what the first one did. If you only want the wall plastered, that is possible too.

What customers say
“I am very happy with how Dido carried out the work. I had a leak and mold problem in my kitchen sink. He replaced the faucet, sink, and parts of the installation. The result turned out very nicely. Dido is very knowledgeable and very solution-oriented. I will definitely hire him again for other jobs.”
