Furniture assembly in Nieuwegein

IKEA wardrobes, PAX wardrobes, beds, loft beds and desks put together and, where needed, fixed to the wall.

I put your furniture together: IKEA wardrobes, PAX wardrobes, beds, loft beds and desks. Where it is needed I fix it to the wall. That works for one wardrobe and for a whole home full of furniture. I work in Nieuwegein, Utrecht and the places around them.

What I do for you

I work in Nieuwegein and Utrecht, and for a bigger job further out into the region.

How I go about it

  • Putting IKEA and PAX wardrobes together, also several at once.
  • Assembling beds, loft beds and desks.
  • Fixing wardrobes to the wall where needed, whatever the wall is made of.
  • Fixing a stair gate firmly at the top or bottom of the stairs.
  • Taking furniture apart and building it up again somewhere new.
  • Doing a whole home or room full of furniture in one go.

Furniture in a box is only done once it is standing. For a wardrobe with sliding doors, a loft bed or a row of wardrobes, that is an afternoon of work with instructions that do not always cooperate. I put IKEA wardrobes, PAX wardrobes, beds, loft beds and desks together. It falls under carpentry and fitting, and I do it in Nieuwegein and in Utrecht.

What I assemble

It is mostly wardrobes and cupboards: a wardrobe, a bookcase, a couple of IKEA wardrobes at once. I also put together beds and loft beds, desks, a TV unit or a children’s playhouse. That also goes for a whole home full of furniture.

Many of my reviews on Werkspot, the Dutch platform for tradespeople, are about furniture assembly. They range from two IKEA wardrobes to a kitchen island, a loft bed for a child, a bookcase, a desk and, once, sixteen pieces of furniture in one job. You can read them on the reviews page.

PAX wardrobes

Putting a PAX wardrobe together means many loose parts, doors that have to be adjusted and a wardrobe two metres high that has to stand straight. A PAX can be built standing up or lying down. Lying down you need more ceiling height than standing up, so check how high your ceiling is before you order.

Once the wardrobe is done, I fix it to the wall where needed. IKEA itself advises anchoring its wardrobes to the wall.

Fixing to the wall

What you use depends on what it goes into. Plasterboard, sand-lime brick, aerated concrete and old brickwork each need a different fixing. A plug that only catches the board will not hold a heavy wardrobe. If I am unsure what is behind the wall, I drill a test hole first. That costs a minute.

Beds and loft beds

A loft bed is more than a bed at height. It has to stand firmly, the stairs or ladder have to be fitted properly and the parts that carry each other have to be right. For a child’s bed you want to be sure of that. I check everything before I leave.

Fitting a stair gate

Fitting a stair gate sounds like a small job, until the gate at the top of the stairs has to hold. I fix it firmly, into the wall or to the stringer. It must not wobble when a child runs into it. How it can be fixed depends on the stairs and on the gate that comes with it. Send me a photo of the place and I will tell you what I would do.

What you can do beforehand

Put the boxes inside and clear the spot where the furniture goes. If a part is missing or damaged, you request it from the shop or the manufacturer. I cannot arrange that for you. Send the article number with it, which is on the box and in the instructions.

Moving and furnishing

If you are moving, I take furniture apart and build it up again in the new place. That prevents the damage you get from dragging a wardrobe through a stairwell in one piece. If you have a home or room to furnish, I put the beds, wardrobes, lamps and the rest in place, as in a home I furnished completely. If you do it for a tenant, also look at furnishing a rental property.

IKEA’s own assembly service or me?

IKEA has its own assembly service through a service partner. If you want to use it, book it with IKEA. You book me separately, directly. That is often handy if you have furniture from several shops, if a wardrobe has to go on the wall or if there is still a list of small jobs. I work through a list like that in the same visit, as under handyman and maintenance.

When the wardrobe does not fit the space

Sometimes a wardrobe from the shop gets in the way, because the room is sloped, an alcove has an odd size or the skirting board is not cooperating. Then a custom-built cupboard is the better choice.

How to start

Send me a list of what has to be put together, with a photo of the boxes or the name and article number. Then you hear what I would do and when it can be done. Use the contact page or message me.

What sets the price

What it costs depends on what has to be put together. I agree that with you up front. The time goes less into the screws and more into what is around them: working out the instructions, getting the doors to run properly and the wall a wardrobe has to be fixed to.

What it comes down to

  • How many pieces of furniture there are and how big and heavy they are.
  • The type of furniture. A PAX with sliding doors or a loft bed takes more time than a desk or a simple wardrobe.
  • Whether a wardrobe has to be fixed to the wall, and which wall it is.
  • Whether furniture first has to be taken apart, for example when you move.
  • The travel time, and whether you combine the list with other small jobs in the same home.

What is included

  • Putting the furniture together following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Adjusting doors, drawers and shelves.
  • Fixing wardrobes to the wall where needed.
  • Tidying up afterwards.

What comes on top

  • The furniture itself, and parts that are missing or damaged.
  • Electrics at the furniture, such as lighting or a connection: we agree that up front.
  • Work on the wall itself, such as plastering, if something turns out to be wrong with it.

Send a few photos of the situation and say briefly what you want. Then you hear from me what it will cost in your case, itemised and with no strings attached.

Also in these towns

I work out of Nieuwegein and come to the whole region. These are the towns with a page of their own.

Frequently asked questions

What does furniture assembly cost?

That depends on what is waiting. A single desk is a different story from a PAX wardrobe with sliding doors, and a loft bed takes more time than a bookcase. The wall a wardrobe has to be fixed to counts too. Send me a list with the product names and article numbers, or a photo of the boxes, and I agree with you beforehand what it costs.

Does IKEA have its own assembly service?

Yes. IKEA works with a service partner for assembly. If you want that, you book it with IKEA itself. You book me separately. That can be handy if you have furniture from several boxes and shops, if something has to go on the wall, or if you want some other small jobs done at the same time.

Can you assemble and install a PAX wardrobe?

Yes, also several. A PAX can be built standing up or lying down and then raised. Lying down you need a higher ceiling than standing, so check the ceiling height before you order. Then I put it together, adjust the doors and fix it to the wall where needed.

Does a wardrobe have to be fixed to the wall?

IKEA advises anchoring its wardrobes to the wall. A tall wardrobe can tip over, especially if a child climbs on it. What you use depends on the wall: plasterboard, sand-lime brick and aerated concrete each need a different fixing. I look at what is behind it before I drill.

Can you assemble a bed or a loft bed?

Yes. A loft bed has to stand firmly, especially if a child sleeps in it. I put it together and check that everything is tight before I leave.

Do you also fit a stair gate?

Yes. At the top or bottom of the stairs I fix it firmly into the wall or to the stringer, so that it does not start to wobble. The more fixing points, the firmer the gate. Adhesive strips alone are not enough for a child running into it. Send me a photo of the stairs and of the gate you have.

Do you also come to Utrecht?

Yes. Nieuwegein is my base, and Utrecht, IJsselstein, Houten and Vianen are in my working area. For a single piece of furniture further away the travelling weighs heavily, so tell me where you are and how much is waiting.

What customers say

“I am very happy with how Dido carried out the work. I had a leak and mold problem in my kitchen sink. He replaced the faucet, sink, and parts of the installation. The result turned out very nicely. Dido is very knowledgeable and very solution-oriented. I will definitely hire him again for other jobs.”

Tell me briefly what is going on

Three short steps. I look at it and call you back to talk it through.

Step 1 of 3: who you are and how I reach you
Step 2 of 3: what needs doing

The more concrete you write it down, the better I can judge what it is going to cost.

Step 3 of 3: where you are

I would rather give you a call. Your email address is only there in case I cannot reach you.
